Tandem Bicyclists in Portland, Oregon
If you have a tandem bicycle, or are just thinking about getting one, you are welcome to join our email list. The purpose of the list is to give tandem bicyclists a place to connect and discuss tandem bicycle related topics. This includes tandem rides people are planning, questions about tandems, organized rides people might want to meet up at, or social events like meeting other tandem teams at a restaurant or to see a movie.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has limited the riding we do with others and has also affected the amount of activity on the email list. Hopefully as more people get vaccinated and the number of infections reduces , things will return back to normal.
What Happened to the old Portland Tandem Club?
In the past, the club was more focused on putting together organized rides and setting up meetings with speakers about bicycle related topics. Over the years, the size of the club hasn't changed much, but the interest in putting together organized rides and events has. So rather than being an official club with annual membership dues, we're now a group of people with an interest in tandem bicycles on an email list.
Rides are not organized events. They are simply invitations to join a ride. If you'd like to invite other tandems to join you for a ride, send a message to the email list with the time and location of the ride start, approximate distance, and whether you plan to ride fast or leisurely. It is not necessary to create ride maps. However this site has a list of common bike rides we like.
There is currently one regularly occurring ride: The Monday Morning Tandem Ride. It starts at the east end of the Sellwood Bridge and usually leaves at 9:00AM, however the start time may change due to weather conditions. If you are interested in joining us, send a message to email@example.com for more information.
The Email List
How the Email List Works
The email list uses "Google Groups" to send mail and keep track of who is on the list. List members will see messages sent by other members on the list. Only list members are allowed to send messages to the list. Messages will only contain the email address of the person who sent the message. Email addresses of those receiving the messages will not be disclosed.
Can I Get Added to the List?
Sure. Also all that we ask is that you have a tandem bike, or are interested in tandem bikes, and are not a commercial enterprise looking for ways to market your products. Please make sure you read the etiquette section below.
To join the list, send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org requesting to be added. Let us know a little about yourselves like what kind of tandem you have or if you are just thinking about getting a tandem, how long you've been riding, etc.
How Do I Send a Message?
Sending a message to everyone on the list is really easy. First, you have to ask to be added to the list (see the next topic.) Then just compose a regular email and address it to: email@example.com
You can also "Reply All" to a message you received from the list. But please change the subject of the message if you are changing the topic of the message.
How do I get off of the List?
To remove yourself from the list, just send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I look at the old messages?
YES! Click here to view the discussions. You must be a member of the list to see the messages. Also, Google may require that you sign in. Look for "sign in" on the left side.
Only send messages that are tandem bike specific comments and questions or for things like invitations to rides, walks, dinners, movies, or other activities. Please, no long ads for a tandem you are selling, but it is okay to mention you are selling a tandem and add a link to an online ad.
Please do not contact us if you are:
Trying to sell your bicycle
A marketing person trying to spread the word about your product
